CSF, New Mexico Highlands University in Merger Talks
CSF and New Mexico Highlands University are negotiating an agreement that would lead to acquisition of the college by Highlands in time for the fall 2009 semester. The agreement would assist the College of Santa Fe with its planning for the spring semester, which starts in January, and would require refinancing of the college's debt by Highlands and approval from the Higher Learning Commission, which accredits both institutions. More

Governor Richardson Announces Film Award Recipients; NMFI Alumni and Faculty Among Recipients
Governor Bill Richardson today announced the recipients of the 2008 New Visions/New Mexico Contract Awards. Now in its third year, the program is providing fourteen contracts totaling $160,000 for New Mexico-based producers and directors to create narrative films, documentaries, animated and experimental works. David Scheinbaum returns to CSF To Head New CSF Photography Department and Marion Center for Photographic Arts
Citing faith in and admiration for the new creative arts focus at the College of Santa Fe, award-winning photographer and professor emeritus David Scheinbaum has agreed to come out of retirement to return to the Marion Chair of Photographic Arts and directorship of the Marion Center, both roles he held for many years while at CSF. In addition, Scheinbaum will chair the newly formed Photography Department, which will become a separate academic entity from the CSF Art Department beginning in fall 2008. More

Undergraduate Film Student Nominated for Independent Spirit Award Erin Fisher co-wrote and stars in "Mumblecore" Hit Quiet City
Erin Fisher, a senior in the College of Santa Fe Moving Image Arts Department, is up for the John Cassavetes Award at the 2008 Film Independent's Spirit Awards. Fisher, who stars in Quiet City, shares writing credit with the film's director, editor and primary screenwriter Aaron Katz, as well as her co-star Cris Lankenau. The Cassavetes Award is given to the best feature made for a budget under $500,000. More

Santa Fe Film Festival to Showcase Six Short Films Made at New Mexico Filmmakers Intensive
Six short films made during the inaugural year of CSF New Mexico Filmmakers Intensive (NMFI) will be screened at the Santa Fe Film Festival which runs November 28 - December 2. CSF president Dr. Stuart C. Kirk announced today that he is recommending the college concentrate on its role as a creative arts college and a key educator of working adults by reducing the number of liberal arts degree programs offered.

"As a key institution in the cultural and intellectual enrichment of Santa Fe and northern New Mexico, we're charting a positive course for the future," said Dr. Kirk. "By focusing on our major strengths in these two areas, we can secure our niche in a competitive educational market and respond to the enrollment trends of our students in order to grow our institution for the future."
