The Core Curriculum

Students fulfill certain academic requirements designed to ensure a well-rounded liberal arts education.

In the fall semester, first-year students explore a contemporary topic in depth through special interdisciplinary classes, and start a two-course sequence of topic-centered writing courses.

In the spring, students continue the writing courses, as well as start rounding out their education with the first of three Liberal Arts area distributives. Sophomores participate in roundtable seminars and continue their distributives, while juniors take classes in ethical responsibility and cultural diversity.

Self-Designed Majors

Students have the option of designing a major by working with faculty and an advisor. Recent self-designed majors have included Creative Writing Therapy, Performance for Social Change, Expressive Therapy, Interdisciplinary Media Arts, Political Art and Game Programming.
